Stiffness Measurement Unit for Letter Sorting Machines
The objective was for the next generation of letter sorting machines at high-performance sorting offices to have flexible and highly reliable systems for separating out letters that are too rigid to prevent any damage to both the sorted material and the machine itself. Letters unsuitable for automated processing are to be identified within a fast stream of singulated letters. Very demanding high real-time requirements must therefore be satisfied.
Our tasks:
- Finding innovative solutions
- Establishing the technical feasibility
- Developing and building a functional model
- Developing and implementing a suitable algorithm
- Testing and optimizing the functional model
The result:
The feasibility of a reliable active stiffness measurement unit in line with the flow of letters was verified and the unit will be launched on the market as part of future sorting systems.
