Optimization of a Door Sealing System
The door seal of a washing machine exhibited weak points in terms of its imperviousness in extreme situations (overloaded drum). The door seal system therefore needed to be optimized for the next generation of washing machines.
Our tasks:
- Looking for new, innovative sealing concepts
- Analysis of the existing seal
- Analysis of the system with regard to tolerances
- Testing and comparing competitors’ systems
Procedure:
- Innovative solutions were selected from a solutions catalogue and developed further
- Helbling Technik modelled the existing seal using 3D FEM analysis and evaluated the seal proportions
- Critical components were identified using 3D tolerance analysis software and improvements were proposed
Result:
Using the various results, prototypes were built and successfully tested.
