Lightweight Composite Structures

Lightweight, high-strength structures save energy in operation and offer users better safety and ride comfort. The aim is to make the most of the material used while ensuring that the level of operational safety is as high as possible. To this end, choosing the right materials, combining them the right way, and getting the dimensions right are crucial. Today's steel and aluminum structures and fiber composite materials are highly demanding in terms of calculation and simulation. Our tasks: Helbling Technik supported the client in choosing the best materials for the job at hand at the earliest stage of the development process.      

   Procedure:
  • Feasibility study carried out and materials selected
  • Dimension and weight concept drafted
  • Simulation model constructed and calculated
  • Preliminary tank specifications (wall strengths, layer structure, fiber angle) drawn up
  • Interfaces with chassis defined, chassis selected
  • Semitrailer concept designed
  • The simulation model makes it possible to
    • optimize the fiber composite component in line with the requirements
    • demonstrate the component's suitability and behavior in a crash
    • align the construction as much as possible with the production methods
