Strength Verification for a Cable Car Cabin

As part of the approval process for every new cable car cabin, evidence of static strength and fatigue strength in accordance with EN 13796 must be provided in Europe. In addition to tests carried out during the design process and the acceptance of a new system, simulations and calculations with the Finite Element Method (FEM) must also be conducted and documented.

Procedure:
For our customer’s cabin type we investigated:

  • The static strength under the effects of empty weight and additional load, wind loads, loads when entering stations and due to the effects of passengers
  • The fatigue strength of the cabin structure on the basis of the load spectra, specified for the test and determined from measurements on existing systems

In addition to the cabin structure components, all bolted, glued, riveted and shrinkage fit joints were precisely examined.
The analysis documentation submitted to the customer formed part of the approval documentation for the system.

Customer: CWA Constructions SA/Corp.
