Development of the Control Electronics for a Real-time Motion Simulator
The contract included the specification, development, production, commissioning and testing of several boards for a customized control system for a multi-axis system.
Procedure:
A new system was designed and realized as a replacement for an old control system. The focus was on rapid signal processing and transmission from all axes to the control logic. The rapid processing and onward transfer of the positions was particularly important. The reading of the axis values and the subsequent signal conditioning are carried out by an FPGA with an integral microcontroller. The data are then forwarded to the next processing unit by a PCI bus.
In order to cut down the development time, the switching behavior (in particular EMC-relevant design ideas) was largely simulated on the buses and in the FPGA and was coordinated. With the knowledge acquired in this way, it was possible to realize the switching development and the PCIe communication straight away, without prior evaluation model structures, with PCBs and tests.
Helbling Technik conducted the project in close cooperation with the customer, from the vision to the realization of prototypes.
