Aligner for high-performance Laminating System
Background
The sheet alignment technology used in previous systems has been exhausted. If, then, the performance of the next generation of systems is to be massively increased, new innovative solutions are therefore required. It is against this background that Asitrade put its trust in cooperation with Helbling, in order to use an outsider’s view and a tried-and-tested, systematic innovation process to find and implement creative approaches efficiently.
The task
- Technology study with clarification concerning feasibility and requirements for the precise and extremely rapid alignment of cover sheets on the running corrugated board web, with a focus on solutions which do not involve a front limit stop or a pull lay mark
- Concept study with analysis and comparison of several approaches
- Detailed conception, design and preparation of the manufacturing documents for the favored approach
- Project management support for Asitrade, ensuring that deadlines are met and coordinating the partners involved for the first systems
Result
The alignment unit, called the Power Aligner, was successfully introduced to the general public under the Masterflute umbrella at the Bobst Competence '10 Open House, and the first systems were sold. The new aligner completely fulfills the technical requirements and therefore opens up a new performance dimension for the laminating industry, in terms of both speed and the sheet strengths which can be processed. At the same time, downtimes and waste can be reduced.
