Design Specification for the Development and Modification of Railway Vehicles
The design specification is the central document for the development, design and calculation, as well as for the strength verification of a railway vehicle or component, including, in particular, in the case of the modernization of older vehicles. The design specification is also the key document for approval by the authorities.
Our tasks:
- Determining the relevant standards
- Definition of the loads to be considered
- Definition of the conditions
- Definition of the safety factors to be applied to the material properties and the utilization coefficients of weld seams
- Selection of the preferred alloys for various areas
- Establishing the principles for evaluating the bolted and riveted joints
- Collecting the most varied load conditions together into load spectra
Typical standards applied:
- EN12663 Railway applications – Structural requirements of railway vehicle bodies
- DVS 1612 Designing and endurance limit assessment of welded joints
- EN15227 Crashworthiness requirements for railway vehicle bodies
- EN 15085 Railway applications – Welding of railway vehicles and components
- VDI 2230 Systematic calculation of high duty bolted joints
- DIN EN 1993 Eurocode 3: Design of steel structures
