Optical gas sensor for leak detection in pharmaceutical vials

Development of an optical sensor for detection of oxygen in glas or plastic vials. The goal is to check sealing by detecting leakage or contamination in a non contact and non destructive way. This system is used in production line and after shelf life as a quality control system for pharmaceutical industry.

The technology is based on absorption spectroscopy by wavelength modulation using VCSEL and DFB laser, reaching high measurement robustness. It was rewarded with the "New Innovative Technology Award 2004" of the Parenteral Drug Association.

Our tasks:

  • evaluation of physical measurement principle
  • conceptual design
  • experimental concept verification
  • product design and realization of prototypes
  • design optimization
  • support during installation in production line
